Consider Crown Castle if:

  • You need a full DAS or small cell system, not just components.
  • Your team needs strong field support and practical installation documentation.
  • You value network operator expertise over component manufacturing expertise.
  • Price sensitivity is high, and you can accept a slightly higher defect rate for a lower upfront cost.

Honestly, if I were starting a new data center project today with a clean slate, I'd probably use RFS for the passive components (cables, connectors, antennas) and consider Crown Castle for the active network design and integration. That's a hybrid approach that plays to both strengths.

But that's just my experience. Your mileage may vary depending on your vendor relationships, your team's skill level, and how much risk you're willing to tolerate. I can only speak to my context—mid-size B2B data center builds with predictable ordering patterns. If you're dealing with a hyperscale project or a colo retrofit, the calculus might be different.

The best choice isn't always about which product is 'better.' It's about which product's strengths align with your weaknesses.
